Dr. Ninad Raut

Dr. Ninad Bhuvaneshwar Raut, has acquired his doctorate in the subject of Forest Botany from the esteemed institute of the country – The Forest Research Institute, located in Dehra Dun. Further he enhanced is educational skill by grabbing a Post Graduate degree from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand in the subject of Integrated Coastal Management. This elite qualification helps the entire human community as the model is based on decision making process for sustainable development as well as use and protection of coastal and marine areas and resources.


Dr. Ninad has followed his passion of working closely with nature which is evident in his education pattern. During early days he acquired Bachelor of Science degree in the subject of Horticulture followed by two masters degrees; (a) Angiosperms and Phytochemistry (b) conservation of Natural Resources.


Being the Head of Ecology and Biodiversity department at Terracon Ecotech Pvt. Ltd., his role is to Initiate, supervise and coordinate Biodiversity related projects (Biodiversity Assessment, Action plans, City Biodiversity Index and LBSAP), Urban Ecology (Tree Inventory, Green Belt Assessment) besides providing expertise on Plant Science components for other projects.


Earlier in his career Dr. Ninad has served for Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), Mumbai as Botany Scientist. In this role he has worked on some of the prestigious projects like Biodiversity assessment projects at Tansa, Sanjay Gandhi NP & Tungareshwar, Filmcity campus, Integrated mangrove conservation through sustainable livelihood development in Ratnagiri to name few. While working for World Wide Fund for Nature (WFF-India) he was fortunate to be a part of the team that arranged nature trails, nature camps, slide illustrated talks, workshops and conducting teacher training workshops related to planning and management of environment education related activities.


Dr. Ninad has participated in various research programs carried out at multiple locations in varied subjects such as soil testing, population status of Ethnomedicinal plants, commercially important Medicinal plants, study of plants of family Acanthaceae etc. His research papers have been published by reputed publications and have left their mark on several occasions. He also is a co-author of a book published in Germany titled ‘Monograph of Family Acanthaceae from Mumbai, Western India’. Dr. Ninad has been invited as a jury member for various science exhibitions and also serves on the panel as reviewer for various national & international journals. He also conducts informative webinars on the subject.


A person with such a varied academic qualification, Dr. Ninad was also an active sportsperson during his college days and has grabbed medals in athletic events. He has volunteered in various social programs and once has bagged first prize in Photographic competition on the theme of ‘Flora and Fauna’ organized by WII, Dehra Dun.


Dr. Ninad hails from village Varor in Palghar District and currently resides at Airoli in Navi Mumbai. He shall be more than happy to extend his helping hand and exchange his valuable experiences to the student interested in the subject of Botany.
